A brief history

Happy Canyon, in its earliest days, used to cover the area from Daniel Park’s rocky cliffs all the way to Newlin Gulch. Among the first settlers in the community were Charles Holmes, John Craig, and Jack Johnson, who largely survived on hunting wild game, cattle farming, and mining. This was in 1859.

The Happy Canyon we know today, however, started out in 1962, when the subdivision was platted out and approved by the Douglas County government. Back then, the neighborhood only included Strawberry Lane, Posse Road, Meadow Lane, and Wrangler Road. The rest of the subdivision (including Lariat Drive and Mesa Drive) were later added to Happy Canyon.
